Becoming a Haeckse is simple – talk to us, write to us, visit us at one of our events, or come to one of the Haecksen picnics. You should know at least one Haeckse personally, who can confirm that they have spoken with out.
When you decide you would like to become a Haeckse, let us know that you would like to be put on our mailing list. You do not need to be an official member of the club. Once you are on the mailing list, you are a Haeckse.
This is how it works:
Who can become a Haeckse?
The Haecksen are open to women (cis, inter and trans), lesbians, and trans and inter men. We do not set a fixed boundary, queer realities are complex, and our group is also complex. You’re genderfluid, non-binary, genderqueer or agender? Decide for yourself, if this group is right for you. You are welcome here!
How do I get on the mailing list?
To get onto the Haecksen mailing list, you need to know at least one Haeckse.
A contact Haeckse or event Haecksen at a meeting will put you on the list or tell you what you need to do.
Do you already know a Haeckse?
Talk to them and send an email to admin@haecksen.org. Please put the email address of the Haeckse that you know as a cc in the email.
These templates will help you:

Maybe you don’t know any of us yet. How and where can you meet us?
Don’t worry, we will help you.
One of the traditional ways to get to know us is at one of our Haecksen picnics, which happen online or in person at irregular intervals. Here we meet up to talk and learn from each other. If you would like to become a Haeckse, one of the organizers at this event will put you on the mailing list.
Analog Picnics
In-Person picnics happen at all the large events which the Haecksen participate in, for example the Chaos Communication Congress and other hacking events
You can find all the meeting information here: https://www.haecksen.org/en/termine/.
Digital Picnics
You live outside a larger centre, and would prefer to first listen in, rather than attending in person – or you have another reason why you can’t join in person? Sometimes we hold digital picnics.
You can find the meeting dates here: https://www.haecksen.org/en/termine/.
Local meetups
You can also get to know us a at one of the local Haecksen groups. They hold regular meetings and sometimes also picnics. You can find the groups, spaces and appointments in your Haecksen map https://www.haecksen.org/en/lokale-gruppen or map.haecksen.org.
If there are no meetings listed, you contact your local group directly.
None of this works for you?
Simply write us an email at info@haecksen.org. Tell us where you (roughly) come from, and what your requirements are (e.g. barrier-free). We will help you to find the right contact.
What happens next?
Once you are on the mailing list, you will receive a welcome email from us. It will contain a lot of information to get you started. It will explain how we work, how we communication with each other, how you can be an active member, and where to go if you have questions.
New members should take part in an onboarding session, in one of our buddy meetings. There you can get a full explanation about the group, get to know other new Haecksen and those who have been Haecksen for a longer time. The buddy meetings take place on the 10th of every month at 7pm in our virtual Big Blue Button (BBB) room “Awesome Ada”.
